The Bihar Vidhan Sabha Sachivalaya (Bihar Legislative Assembly Secretariat), Patna, has released two advertisements for 20 posts in the Secretariat: 15 Junior Secretariat Assistant posts under Advertisement No. 01/2026 and 5 Office Attendant posts under Advertisement No. 02/2026. Applications opened on 7 November 2026 at 11.00 AM and close on 6 December 2026 on the official website vidhansabha.bihar.gov.in.
The two posts look similar on the surface, but they ask for different qualifications and select candidates in completely different ways. Junior Secretariat Assistant needs Intermediate (Class 12) and is selected through a written OMR preliminary exam followed by a typing test. Office Attendant needs Matriculation (Class 10) and is selected through a 100-mark interview, with a written exam only if applications cross 40,000. The fee differs too, so candidates should read the section for their own post before paying.
Junior Secretariat Assistant carries Pay Level 2, Rs 19,900 to Rs 63,200, while Office Attendant carries Pay Level 1, Rs 18,000 to Rs 56,900, alongside admissible state allowances. The numbers are provisional and may increase or decrease.

Application Fee
The fee follows the same split for both posts, at different amounts. For Junior Secretariat Assistant, EBC, BC, EWS and unreserved men of Bihar pay Rs 600, and so does every candidate from outside Bihar. Bihar SC and ST candidates, candidates with 40 percent or more disability, and all women who are permanent residents of Bihar pay Rs 150. For Office Attendant, the same groups pay Rs 400 and Rs 100. Payment is online only, by net banking, credit card or debit card, and it has to be done by 6 December 2026. Bank charges sit on top of the fee, and the fee is not refunded.
One warning from the advertisement is worth reading twice. SC or ST candidates who pay the lower fee and then cannot produce the certificate may be declared ineligible, and the notice says such candidates may choose to pay the general fee to keep their candidature safe.
Eligibility: Age Limit and Qualification
Junior Secretariat Assistant needs Intermediate or equivalent from a board or council recognised by the state or central government. Office Attendant needs Matriculation or equivalent. Both posts need Indian citizenship, and the age is counted from the date of birth in the Matric certificate.
The minimum age is 18 years as on 1 August 2026. The maximum is 37 years for general category men, 40 years for general category women and for backward class and extremely backward class candidates, and 42 years for SC and ST candidates. Bihar government servants get up to five years of relaxation if they have not already used five attempts. Persons with disabilities get ten years beyond the maximum, and ex-servicemen get three years plus their service period, provided their actual age is not more than 57 years on the date of application.
One rule catches people out. Reservation is only for permanent residents of Bihar. Candidates from other states get no reservation benefit and pay the general fee. Women get 35 percent horizontal reservation and EWS gets 10 percent where a vacancy exists, under Bihar government rules.
Selection Process: Junior Secretariat Assistant
Junior Secretariat Assistant is a written exam first. The preliminary exam is an OMR based objective paper with 100 questions for 400 marks, four marks for each correct answer and one mark deducted for each wrong one. Candidates get two hours. The paper splits into General Studies with 50 questions, General Science and Mathematics with 20, and Mental Ability and Logical Reasoning with 30. It runs in Hindi and English, and if the two versions disagree, the English one counts. The qualifying marks are 40 percent for general category, 36.5 percent for backward class, 34 percent for extremely backward class, and 32 percent for SC, ST, women and persons with disabilities.
Clearing the prelim only gets a candidate to the typing test. Candidates have to type at 30 words per minute in Hindi and 30 words per minute in English, ten minutes each, in Kruti Dev font, with a 1.5 percent error relaxation. The typing test is qualifying only. The final merit list comes from the prelim marks of candidates who clear typing. So a fast typist with a weak prelim score still loses to a slow typist with a strong one, as long as both clear 30 words per minute.
Selection Process: Office Attendant
Office Attendant works the other way round. There is no written exam by default. Selection is a 100-mark interview, and the merit list is made on interview marks alone. The one exception is volume. If applications cross 40,000, the Sachivalaya may hold an OMR based preliminary exam first and call about ten times the vacancies for interview, from candidates who clear the fixed qualifying marks. With only five posts, that threshold means the interview-only route is likely but not guaranteed.
How to Apply on vidhansabha.bihar.gov.in
