ISRO SDSC SHAR Apprentice Recruitment 2026: 400 Apprentice Posts at Sriharikota

The Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR (SDSC SHAR), Sriharikota — the spaceport of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space, Government of India — has released the notification for the engagement of 400 apprentices in 2026. The notification, No. SDSC SHAR/SCF/P&GA-II/Apprentice/2026, is dated 6 November 2026, and the online application window runs from 6 November to 26 November 2026.

The biggest attraction of this recruitment is that there is no written examination and no interview. Selection is made on the basis of academic merit, followed by document verification. The 400 posts cover six categories: Engineering Graduate Apprentice (50), Non-Engineering Graduate Apprentice (60), Technician Apprentice for diploma holders (35), Diploma in Commercial and Computer Practice or DCCP (60), Trade Apprentice for ITI holders (180) and Vocational Apprentice (15). The stipend is Rs 9,600 to Rs 12,300 a month depending on the category, and the training lasts 12 months.

The application runs on two portals, and the order matters. Candidates must register first on the National Apprenticeship portal — NATS for graduate and diploma candidates, NAPS for trade and vocational candidates — and only then apply on the UMANG portal. Anyone who goes straight to UMANG without the apprenticeship registration will get stuck.

This post brings together the vacancy details, dates, eligibility, stipend and selection process from the official notification itself, which was read directly from the official PDF on the SDSC SHAR website, rewritten here in simple form. Where a detail is not given in the notification, that gap is flagged clearly below instead of being guessed.

Important Dates

EventDate
Notification issued6 November 2026
Online registration starts6 November 2026
Last date for online application26 November 2026
Merit list and document verificationTo be announced after 26 November 2026

The notice gives no verification date. Shortlisted candidates hear about it after the merit lists come out, so the wait after 26 November is for the lists, not for an admit card. Any corrigendum will appear only on the ISRO or SDSC SHAR website.

Application Fee

The notification mentions no application fee. There is no fee to apply for any of the six apprentice categories. Candidates should not pay anyone who asks for money to release a form or a merit list, and should apply only through the official NATS or NAPS registration followed by the UMANG portal.

Age Limit

Gap flagged: The notification gives no age limit, so no age limit is stated in this post. Do not trust any portal that prints an age limit for this recruitment. The only eligibility conditions in the notification are the qualification, the year of passing and the exclusions listed below.

Eligibility: Qualification

CategoryQualificationStipend per month
Engineering Graduate ApprenticeB.E. / B.Tech in the relevant discipline with first class and at least 60% marks or 6.32 CGPARs 12,300
Non-Engineering Graduate ApprenticeB.Sc / B.Com / B.A. in Science, Commerce or Arts with first class and at least 60% marks or 6.32 CGPARs 12,300
Technician Apprentice (Diploma)Diploma in the relevant discipline with first class and at least 60% marks or 6.32 CGPARs 10,900
Diploma in Commercial and Computer Practice (DCCP)Diploma in Commercial and Computer PracticeNot stated in the notification (see gap note below)
Trade ApprenticeSSLC / SSC with NCVT ITI / NTC in the relevant tradeRs 9,600
Vocational ApprenticeCertificate in the relevant vocational course involving two years of study after secondary school, recognised by AICTERs 9,600

Graduate and diploma candidates must have passed the relevant qualification in 2022 or later. That 2022 cut-off is a hard rule in the notification, not a preference: a 2021 pass-out cannot apply for a graduate or diploma apprenticeship, however good the marks are. Only Indian nationals can apply.

Gap flagged — DCCP stipend: the notification lists DCCP as a separate vacancy category with 60 posts, but the stipend table has no row for it, even though it gives Rs 12,300 for graduates, Rs 10,900 for technicians and Rs 9,600 for trade and vocational apprentices. DCCP candidates should check the amount with SDSC SHAR rather than assume it matches one of those rows.

Who cannot apply: anyone who has already completed an apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, or is undergoing one now; anyone with one year or more of experience in an organisation; anyone pursuing higher studies, or holding a sandwich course or short-term certificate. Combining this apprenticeship with another institution is not allowed.

Stipend and Training

The training runs for 12 months from the day the apprenticeship contract is signed. Selected apprentices must submit a medical certificate showing fitness at the time of joining, and must sign the apprenticeship contract under the Apprentices Act, 1961 and the Amendment Act, 1973.

This is an apprenticeship, not a job. Completing the training gives no claim to temporary, ad hoc or permanent employment at SDSC SHAR or any other ISRO centre. Accommodation comes on a shared basis and only if a room is free — the notice says SHAR will provide it in one of its residential colonies, subject to availability, so candidates should not plan on a room being guaranteed. No travelling allowance is paid for document verification, and candidates arrange their own stay and food.

Selection Process

There is no written examination and no interview. SDSC SHAR draws a category-wise merit list for each apprenticeship category from the academic score, then shortlists candidates discipline by discipline and calls them for document verification. Only those who turn up for verification and meet every requirement get the apprenticeship.

Marks go in as a percentage or as CGPA, exactly as the consolidated mark list shows them. If the institute has a conversion formula, that formula applies; if it does not, the CGPA is multiplied by 9.5. A mismatch between the marks entered and the certificates uploaded counts as a disqualification at any stage, so candidates must enter the numbers from the marksheet, not from memory. Canvassing in any form is a disqualification, and no interim correspondence will be entertained.

At document verification, candidates must produce the originals of all relevant documents — proof of date of birth, mark sheets, testimonials and certificates of all educational qualifications. SC, ST and OBC candidates must produce a valid caste certificate in the Government of India format with self-attested copies; EWS candidates must produce a valid income and asset certificate for 2026–2027; PwD candidates must produce a valid disability certificate and the UDID card with self-attested copies.

How to Apply

The application runs on two portals, and the order matters. Register first on the apprenticeship portal, then apply on UMANG. Follow these steps in order:

  1. Register on the National Apprenticeship portal: graduate and diploma candidates use NATS at nats.education.gov.in, and trade and vocational candidates use NAPS at apprenticeship.gov.in. Upload your degree or diploma certificate and a valid government ID while registering, and keep the enrolment number the portal generates.
  2. Make sure your Aadhaar number is linked to your bank account and Direct Benefit Transfer is switched on, because the stipend comes through that route.
  3. Open the UMANG portal at web.umang.gov.in, register or log in, search for SDSC SHAR Apprenticeship, pick your post, fill the details and submit.
  4. Upload supporting documents (10th / SSC, Intermediate, ITI, Diploma, Graduation certificates as applicable) as JPG, JPEG or PNG files of no more than 1 MB each. Your photograph and signature must follow the format and size the UMANG portal shows, and the photograph must be clear enough to identify you.
  5. Check every field before final submission — you cannot change anything after final submission. Keep a copy of the submitted form.

SDSC SHAR will not accept applications through any other mode, and the last date is 26 November 2026. For clarification, the notice gives one email address, apprenticeship@shar.gov.in, and says it will not take phone enquiries.
