GSSSB CCE Recruitment 2026: Overview

CCE 2.0 covers two groups in one combined recruitment. Group-A has 243 vacancies across seven post types in various state government departments. Group-B has 994 vacancies, all for the Junior Clerk post, spread across many departments and offices. Both groups appear for a common preliminary examination, but their main examinations are different: Group-A has a descriptive main examination of 350 marks, while Group-B has an objective main examination of 200 marks. Preliminary marks are used only for screening and are not counted toward the final selection merit.

The official notification is a 38-page Gujarati document available on gsssb.gujarat.gov.in. It carries the complete department-wise vacancies, eligibility criteria, age relaxation, fixed pay, reservation provisions, application instructions, examination fee, selection process and the preliminary and main examination syllabi. Candidates should read it in full, because this summary cannot reproduce every departmental condition.

Application Fee

The preliminary examination fee is Rs. 500 for unreserved candidates and Rs. 400 for eligible reserved or concession categories, including women of all categories, SEBC, SC, ST, EWS, persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen. Payment is made online through OJAS using a debit card, internet banking, UPI or wallet, and additional transaction charges may apply. An application is not valid until the fee has been paid successfully, so candidates should retain the payment receipt.

The notification provides for refund of the examination fee to candidates who actually appear for the preliminary examination, through the applicable payment mechanism. Candidates who do not attend the examination are not entitled to this refund, and fees are also not refundable merely because an application is rejected or cancelled.

Age Limit and Relaxation

Applicants must be at least 20 years old and not more than 35 years old as on 30 November 2026, before any applicable upper-age relaxation. Relaxation follows Gujarat government rules: 5 years for general category women and for reserved category men, 10 years for reserved category women subject to a maximum age of 45 years, and 10 to 20 years for candidates with disabilities depending on category, subject to a maximum age of 45 years. Ex-servicemen get their qualifying service period plus 3 years under the applicable rules. Reservation-related benefits are generally restricted to candidates belonging to Gujarat’s recognised reserved categories, and candidates from other states should not assume they qualify for the same concessions.

Eligibility and Qualification

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the government. The degree must be obtained from a university established or incorporated under the applicable Central or State legislation, a recognised institution or an institution meeting the relevant University Grants Commission provisions, and it must be held by the cut-off date of 30 November 2026.

Basic knowledge of computer applications is mandatory under the Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967. However, the notification permits candidates who do not currently possess the required computer knowledge certificate to apply; such candidates must obtain and produce acceptable computer knowledge certification before appointment. Accepted evidence may include a recognised computer course certificate, a degree or diploma involving computer studies, or a Class 10 or Class 12 qualification with a computer subject, according to the applicable rules. Candidates also need adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both, and should prepare for the Gujarati language portions of the examination and the descriptive Gujarati paper where applicable.

Salary: Fixed Pay for Five Years

Selected candidates receive a fixed monthly salary for the first five years, depending on the post. Sub Registrar Grade-1, Assistant Tribal Development Officer and Office Superintendent receive Rs. 49,600 per month. Sub Registrar Grade-2, Social Welfare Inspector and Head Clerk receive Rs. 40,800 per month. Office Assistant, Senior Clerk and Junior Clerk receive Rs. 26,000 per month. These amounts are the fixed monthly remuneration for the initial five-year period and should not be treated as a guaranteed monthly take-home salary after deductions. Candidates whose service is found satisfactory after five years may become eligible for regular appointment in the corresponding government pay scale, subject to prevailing rules and the judicial conditions referred to in the advertisement.

Selection Process and Exam Pattern

The recruitment follows a two-stage competitive examination process. First, all candidates appear for a common preliminary examination. GSSSB then prepares separate Group-A and Group-B eligibility lists, generally shortlisting up to seven times the number of category-wise vacancies for the main examinations. The final merit lists are prepared using the main examination results, reservation provisions and qualifying standards, followed by document verification.

The preliminary examination is an objective test of 150 multiple-choice questions for 150 marks, held over 120 minutes. The subject-wise split is: English 15, Gujarati 15, General Awareness and Current Affairs 30, Quantitative Aptitude 30 and Reasoning 60. There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer, and the minimum qualifying standard is 40 percent. Eligible candidates with disabilities receive additional examination time as per the notification, including 20 minutes per hour where applicable.

The Group-A main examination is descriptive, with three papers totalling 350 marks over nine hours: Gujarati Language Skill 100 marks over 3 hours, English Language Skill 100 marks over 3 hours, and General Studies 150 marks over 3 hours. The Gujarati paper covers essay writing, expansion of ideas, precis writing, prose comprehension, press notes, letter writing, discussion articles, reports, translation and Gujarati grammar. The English paper covers essay writing, formal letters, report writing, interpretation of visual information, formal speech, precis writing, reading comprehension, grammar and translation. The General Studies paper covers Indian history, Gujarat history, cultural heritage, the Constitution, governance, economy, geography, science, environment, current affairs and other subjects prescribed in Appendix-H of the notification.

The Group-B main examination is a single objective paper of 200 marks over 120 minutes. Its subjects are: Indian State System and Constitution 20, Indian Economy, State Economy and NITI Aayog 20, Public Administration and Governance 20, Discipline and Ethics in Public Service 10, Government Schemes 30, Regional, National and International Events including Current Affairs 30, History and Geography of Gujarat 20, Cultural Heritage of Gujarat 10, Gujarati and English 20, and Science, Environment and Information Technology 20. The minimum qualifying standard is 40 percent for the preliminary and main examinations, including the applicable papers, and it cannot be reduced below 40 percent for any category. Meeting the qualifying standard does not automatically guarantee shortlisting, because the competitive merit cut-off may be higher.
