UPSSSC JE Recruitment 2026: 1536 Vacancies

The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has opened two separate Junior Engineer (JE) recruitment drives for 2026, together covering 1,536 posts. One drive is for Mechanical-stream posts and the other is for Electrical-stream posts. They are two different advertisements with two different application windows, so candidates must apply in the correct window for their own stream. Mechanical posts include: Junior Engineer (Mechanical) in Irrigation (304 posts) and Public Works (264 posts), Junior Engineer (Mechanical) under special selection in Irrigation (154 posts), Mechanic in UPSRTC (270 posts), Assistant Storekeeper in UPSRTC (128 posts), Assistant District Panchayat Raj Officer (Technical) (32 posts), Technical Assistant (Mechanical) in the Ground Water Department (3 posts) and Instructor (Machine) in the Prisons Department (1 post).

Electrical posts include: Junior Engineer (Electrical), Electrician, Technical Assistant (Electrical) and Research Assistant, spread across departments such as the Public Works Department, the Directorate of Electrical Safety, UPSRTC and universities.

Eligibility Criteria

PET-2025 Scorecard – Mandatory

Every applicant must have appeared in UPSSSC PET-2025 and must hold a PET-2025 scorecard. Candidates are shortlisted for the main examination on the basis of their normalised PET-2025 score. Candidates whose actual or normalised PET-2025 score is zero or below zero are not shortlisted.

Educational Qualification

Mechanical: A 3-year diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Board of Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh, or an equivalent recognised institution. Some UPSRTC posts accept a diploma in Automobile or Mechanical Engineering, and the Instructor (Machine) post requires Intermediate plus a 3-year Mechanical diploma. Check the post-wise conditions in the advertisement before applying.

Electrical: High School (Class 10) from the UP Board or an equivalent board, plus a 3-year diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Board of Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh, or an equivalent recognised institution.

Age Limit (as on 1 July 2026)

Most posts carry an age limit of 18 to 40 years. For some posts — such as Technical Assistant and Assistant District Panchayat Raj Officer in the Mechanical drive, and Technical Assistant and Research Assistant in the Electrical drive — the minimum age is 21 years, giving a range of 21 to 40 years. Upper-age relaxation applies to reserved categories as per Uttar Pradesh government rules.

Salary / Pay Scale

Junior Engineer posts are placed in Pay Level 6, Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400, under the 7th CPC (Grade Pay Rs 4,200). A few allied Mechanical posts in UPSRTC fall in lower pay bands of Rs 5,200 to Rs 20,200 (Level 5 for Mechanic and Level 4 for Assistant Storekeeper). The exact pay for a post is the one given in its own advertisement entry, and allowances are admissible as per rules.

Application Fee

The online processing fee is Rs 25 for all categories — General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST and PwD alike. No separate application fee is charged at the application stage.

Selection Process

Selection runs in stages. First, candidates are shortlisted from PET-2025 scores. Shortlisted candidates then appear in the main written examination. Document verification and medical examination follow as per the rules of the concerned post. For the Mechanical main examination, the reported pattern is a single objective paper of 100 questions carrying 100 marks, to be finished in 2 hours, with negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer. Candidates should confirm the Electrical pattern from the Electrical advertisement itself.
