All 1,172 vacancies are reported as unreserved, and the commission has said the number may increase or decrease. The school-wise list of posts, with division and district, is given in the official notification. One important rule on school category: male candidates are not eligible for Headmaster posts in girls’ schools. Female candidates may apply for a boys’ school post or a girls’ school post, but they must choose only one category while filling the form.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
- Educational Qualification: A postgraduate (Master’s) degree with at least 50% marks from a recognised university, and a B.Ed. or B.P.Ed. degree from a course recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
- Experience (any one): At least 4 years of teaching experience as a Lecturer or Assistant Teacher in Classes 9 to 12 in a recognised institution, OR at least 4 years of experience as Headmaster of a recognised Junior High School. The experience certificate must come from the competent authority.
- Age Limit (as on 1 July 2026): Minimum 30 years and maximum 62 years. A candidate who is above 62 years of age on 1 July 2026 is not eligible. Age relaxation, where applicable, is governed by the UPESSC Headmaster recruitment rules under Advertisement Number 09/2026.
Application Fee
The application fee is Rs. 1,500 for all categories — General, EWS, OBC, SC, ST and Persons with Disabilities. The fee must be paid online through debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI on the official portal. Candidates should check any payment gateway charges shown during the transaction.
Pay Scale
Selected Headmasters are placed in Pay Level 10, with a pay scale of Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month, plus admissible allowances as per Uttar Pradesh government rules.
Selection Process
Selection is made through a written examination followed by an interview, and then document verification and a final merit list. The written examination is scheduled for 7 January 2027. The interview schedule will be announced separately by the commission. Candidates should keep the printout of the submitted application form safe, as copies may be required at later stages.
